The term, psychosocial treatment, refers to treatment that uses psychological and behavioral techniques to address psychological or behavioral difficulties.
There will be two psychosocial treatments:
- Child Life and Attention Skills (CLAS) Treatment, which includes a parenting skills component, teacher consultation component, and a skill building component for children.
- Parent-Focused Treatment (PFT), which includes the parenting skills component.
To be eligible, child must:
- meet criteria for the inattentive subtype of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (we provide the evaluation at no charge)
- be between 7 and 11 years of age, (2nd through 5th grade)
- live with at least one biological or adoptive parent for past one year
- currently attend school full-time
- speak English (at least one parent must also speak English)
Note: Children with severe hyperactivity, significant sensory impairment, cognitive delays, or major psychiatric or neurological illness may not be eligible. This program does not include medication, but children who currently are on medication can be in the study. They would need to stop taking medication during a 2-week assessment period, but then can resume taking their medication for the rest of the study.
